Mediation Services

  1. North Mountain Neighborhood Group
    Worked with concerned residents of North Mountain neighborhood and the City of Ashland regarding appropriate development conditions for a proposed subdivision and Planned Unit Development adjoining a flood plain and floodway area, and with potential for creating flood damage on adjoining properties. Review the proposed development plan, review concerns of neighbors and develop set of Findings keyed to City and State ordinance and statute requirements to ensure appropriate responsiveness by City staff, Planning Commission, and the developer. Develop neighborhood understanding of reasonable conditions that would meet the goal of the neighbors, prevent flood damage, as well as preserve neighborhood property values.
  2. Grants Pass Surgery Center/Asante Health System Mediation
    As Project Planner for the Grants Pass Surgery Center, an ambulatory surgery center proposed for development by a group of local surgeons, met with acting CEO of the Surgery Center and Asante Health Systems Three Rivers Hospital manager and other Asante staff and consultants. Facilitated full expression of concerns, desires, and priorities of both sides, and worked to facilitate solutions acceptable to both. Participated with Mary Forst of Confluence Northwest at facilitated meetings involving surgery center physicians and Asante board members and physicians.
  3. Southridge Neighborhood/Pac Corp Development Mediation
    Worked with Southridge Concerned Neighbors and the developer/owner of Pac Corp Development, Inc., currently in the process of constructing a new subdivision next to the existing Southridge Subdivision. Facilitated the expression of neighborhood concerns and desires regarding drainage, grading, retaining walls, past property damage, potential property damage, increased traffic, and new street configuration, and met with the developer, the developer's surveyor and engineer, as well as City Planning and Engineering staff to create a solution approved by the City and desired by both the concerned neighbors and the developer. Drafted concept agreement, including plans and sketches showing specific solutions to the concerns expressed by adjoining property owners, and obtained neighborhood and developer signatures and City approval.
  4. Construction Cost Mediation
    Worked with Albertsons, Inc. (Boise, Idaho), National Ventures (New Jersey) and Grants Pass Associates (New York) to develop agreement on cost-sharing for development of infrastructure and site work for 110,000 square foot commercial development and expansion of existing shopping center. Included line-item analysis of expenditures and allocation of cost-shares. Portion of project mediated over $6 million.
  5. Mediation Seminars
    Attended 4-day seminar by Confluence Northwest, Mary Forst, J.D., and Elaine Hallmark, J.D., for training in basic mediation, small-group and large-group work, using interactive and role-playing methodology and a building block approach.

    Eight years initiating and leading regional volunteer group with "Beyond War", an international organization seeking to move the world beyond the superpowers conflict and threat of nuclear war, 1987-1995. Led individual, small-group and large-group discussions and seminars, attended trainings in Eugene, Portland, Seattle and Palo Alto.
